• The National Geographic Awards
- For over 100 years, the National Geographic Society has annually honored the years’ greatest exploration and scientific achievements. When you have past honorees such as Charles Lindbergh, John Glenn, Louis and Mary Leakey and Neil Armstrong, you know that this is no ordinary awards show...
The National Geographic Awards night culminated their “Celebration of Exploration” week in Washington, D.C., which featured many singular events throughout the week. Held at the Lisner Auditorium, itself a national landmark at George Washington University, National Geographic awarded the Hubbard Medal (their highest honor) to NEIL deGRASSE TYSON, and BERTRAND PICCARD and ANDRÉ BORSCHBERG, co-founders & pilots of the Solar Impulse – the first around-the-world solar flight – were awarded the prestigious Further Award.
For such a special year for the awards, National Geographic wanted to introduce a live musical element that would distinguish the event from years’ past. For that, and in harmony with the company’s worldwide appeal and respect, Broken Arrow brought in multiple Grammy award winner INDIA.ARIE to headline and perform the opening and closing numbers. Her exquisite performances gave the year’s greatest global achievements the perfect soundtrack, and elevated the evening into another
far-reaching and resplendent Geographic photograph.
Hosting the evening was CBS Sunday Morning mainstay MO ROCCA, and SAM HARRIS of X AMBASSADORS also performed. Presenters included JAMES CAMERON and JASON SILVA.
Congratulations to all, for taking us Further.

• Singularity University Global Summit
Singularity University aims big, to say the least.
As a Silicon Valley-based think tank/incubator/educational benefit (B) corp., it focuses on utilizing cutting-edge technologies to find global solutions to humanity's critical issues. It was founded in 2008 by noted futurist Ray Kurzweil and X Prize founder & VC Peter Diamandis at the NASA Research Park in order to grow a community of global change makers to take on the task...
So when they decided to host their first global summit, it had to be extraordinary. The exclamation point was to be a nighttime celebration and party designed to take the summit to the next level.
And that it did. Broken Arrow brought in ROB GARZA of THIEVERY CORPORATION to headline a special night for the conference guests at an industrial offsite location. The critically and universally popular DJ tandem was in the midst of their own worldwide 20th Anniversary Tour when Rob broke away to lay down an ultra-delicious groove-heavy mix in front of a 70-foot video wall for the futurists, many of which were huge fans of Thievery.
Guests also enjoyed a silent disco mix competition between 3 other local DJs in a downstairs lounge, and perhaps best of all, no speeches! Just fun, dancing, eating and chilling to celebrate the success of this unique difference maker.

• NHL Stadium Series - Coors Field, Denver CO
The NHL has hit a gold mine with their now-annual outdoor Stadium Series games, and this year's version at Denver's Coors Field was electric, featuring heavy hitters both on the ice and on the stage.
The 2016 Coors LIght Stadium Series was the first time the event was held in Denver, and it featured the Avalanche hosting long-time rivals the Detroit Red Wings. The buildup and game took over the town and sold out the 50,000 + seat stadium. As well the Saturday night prime-time affair was nationally televised by NBC and throughout Canada on CBC and TVA (French).
Kicking off the night, ANDY GRAMMER brought his high-energy show to the custom designed stage with a set that included his mega-hits "Keep Your Head Up," "Honey I'm Good" and "Good to be Alive." AMBER RILEY, fresh from her live TV performance in The Wiz, sang the national anthem as Air Force F-16s flew overhead. The entertainment reached its peak at the first intermission, where headliner and Denver's own THE FRAY took command with their hits "Cable Car," "You Found Me" and "Love Don't Die," accompanied by an amazing laser light show and pyrotechnics.
The Stadium Series has become a huge hit for hockey and the NHL and combines the best in sports and music entertainment.

• Super Bowl 50 - NFL Owners Dinner
- The NFL pulled out all the stops for their golden Super Bowl anniversary in San Francisco, with a host of events the week leading up to the game. One of the most memorable and to toast their own, the 32 NFL team owners held their annual private dinner at SF's iconic City Hall, and were given a night to remember.
The owners were treated to a cocktail hour upon arrival and were able to gaze at all 5 San Francisco 49er Super Bowl trophies, as well as at an exhibit featuring all previous 49 Super Bowl championship rings. The EDWARD SIMON TRIO laid down some heavy jazz, fresh off an afternoon rehearsal session for Terence Blanchard's upcoming SF Jazz production "Champion: An Opera in Jazz". Then a dinner in the grand rotunda catered by THOMAS KELLER (The French Laundry, Napa; Per Se, NY), the only American chef to have been awarded simultaneous three star Michelin ratings for two separate restaurants, with the DICK BRIGHT ORCHESTRA serenading the crowd at the top of the grand staircase. As well comedian AL MADRIGAL (Jon Stewart's Daily Show) kept things lively with a hilarious set during the dinner.
But it was the afterparty where the night took off with a surprise set by the STEVE MILLER BAND. Miller, who has his own great history with San Francisco, had just been voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Miller hit many of his classic songs along with some blistering blues journeys, all accompanied by his singular and timeless vocals. In an intimate setting, created by Stanlee Gatti, it was the perfect high energy launch into Super Bowl weekend.

• U.S. Conference of Mayors
- Over 250 mayors from around the country visited San Francisco and were treated to over-the-top entertainment during their stay. The opening night private gala was set in the main rotunda of the iconic, Beaux-Arts style San Francisco City Hall, and featured Bay area artists and themes. Highlights were many, but definitely included first-time collaborations between PATTI AUSTIN and the 100-strong SAN FRANCISCO GAY MENS CHORUS for “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”; the legendary KRONOS QUARTET playing a very avant-garde classical version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” while renown puppeteer and performance artist BASIL TWIST’s creations danced and cascaded down from the top of the inner dome; JOHN FOGERTY singing “(Sittin on) the Dock of the Bay” for the first time in his storied career, just by himself on acoustic guitar; intimate jazz rooms with the MARCUS SHELBY QUARTET and EDWARD SIMON of the San Francisco Jazz Collective, and the DICK BRIGHT ORCHESTRA keeping the joint jumping from the top of the grand staircase throughout the evening.
The mayors were sent off with a show-stopping version of “San Francisco” by local stage heroes BEACH BLANKET BABYLON, with all the night’s entertainers joining in. A bagpiper then led the mayors outside into a VIP viewing area to see a fantastic laser light show on City Hall’s exterior by Obscura Digital, which depicted the last 100 years in history since City Hall had been rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake.
If the opening night gala wasn’t enough... three more power-packed nights awaited the mayors, including an international food and entertainment night at the incredible Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, with African music stalwarts KOTOJA and the PETE ESCOVEDO Latin Jazz Orchestra providing non-stop global grooves.
All in all, these amazing and diverse Bay area talents provided a singular soundtrack for San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to showcase his city as host to our nations mayors.
